Biography
With a voice described by Joshua Kosman (San Francisco Chronicle) as a "magical gift," and, "glorious," Aléxa Anderson, née Sessler, is a soprano based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
She has soloed with the San Francisco Symphony, and has performed lead roles with companies such as West Edge Opera, Lamplighters Music Theatre, Pocket Opera, West Bay Opera, Opera Cultura, and the San Francisco Opera Guild. Her roles include Mimi (La Boheme), Nedda (I Pagliacci), Princess Ida (Princess Ida), among others.
She also been featured at the national OPERA America Conference both as a soloist and as a panel speaker for the African, Latinx, Asian, Arab and/or Native American (ALAANA) network. Aléxa is an avid supporter of works by BIPOC and marginalized peoples, and actively seeks to promote and perform these incredible stories.
In her teaching life, Aléxa focuses on performance-based education geared towards at-risk, incarcerated, and underprivileged youth. As Artistic Producer with Opera Cultura, she created curriculum for at-risk and incarcerated youth designed to allow freedom of expression, physical, mental, and emotional engagement, and exploration of music and the performing arts without barriers. Aléxa’s students often win competitions, scholarships, and have attended renowned conservatories and universities.
She has four music-loving cats.
